Pastor prays against gambling before Governor's speech to advocate it

Rev. Herschel York, a Frankfort, KY pastor and the former head of the Kentucky Baptist Convention gave the prayer tonight before the Governor's budget speech. He prayed for help for Kentuckians to "to foster salaries, not slot machines, to build cars, enable jobs, not license casinos." That was just before the Governor argued for fostering slot machines and licensing casinos.

Oh, and State Sen. Kathy Stein (D-Lexington) didn't like it. As opposed, of course to all the prayers given before sessions of the General Assembly that she does like.

I have some comments about this:

"Oh, and State Sen. Kathy Stein (D-Lexington) didn't like it. As opposed, of course to all the prayers given before sessions of the General Assembly that she does like."

I assume you know praying is equivalent to talking to yourself.

I also assume you know it's a violation of our Establishment Clause to be publicly praying in a state General Assembly.

I hope you know praying is childish and just plain stupid.

HumanApe,

"I assume you know praying is equivalent to talking to yourself."

Okay, assertion noted. But have you any proof it is true?

"I also assume you know it's a violation of our Establishment Clause to be publicly praying in a state General Assembly."

Is *public prayer* establishing a state religion? How?

"I hope you know praying is childish and just plain stupid."

How is it childish and/or stupid?

I'll pick up "The Origin of Species" again (it's been a while since I've read it and I didn't quite make it all the way through) but from what I remember of the book, I utterly fail to see how "Darwin killed God." Please explain.

Sincerely,
Daniel

People have invented god fairies to solve scientific problems, for example to explain the diversity of life. This is called the god of the gaps. Darwin's Natural Selection idea which has repeatedly been shown to be correct has eliminated your fairy's most important gap. Since your fairy's magic wand wasn't necessary for something as complicated as the development of species, it's fair to say it wasn't necessary for anything else.

Even without the science, the idea that there's a master of universe with unlimited magical powers hiding who knows where, is ridiculous and childish.

Another problem your fairy has is no evidence. Not one shred of it. Rational people throw out everything that can't be shown beyond any doubt to be correct. Your evidence-free fairy is nothing more than wishful thinking. It's a lazy excuse to not think.

I'm not surprised you're unable to understand something as simple as the Establishment Clause. The theocrats of Iran have the same problem you have. If you can't respect our constitution maybe you should move there.

I don't need proof or evidence against your praying. It's your childish fantasy so it's your responsibility to provide evidence for it.

I feel like I'm trying to reason with a dog. Christians are Christians because they are unable to understand anything or they are afraid to understand. Perhaps they're terrified of reality and that's why they refuse to understand anything that conflicts with their cowardly heaven fantasy, which by the way makes terrorism possible.

Sorry, one more thing. There is no reason to bother with "The Origin of Species". This is the 21st century, not the 19th century. If you want to understand why your fairy isn't necessary for anything, read Why Evolution is True by Jerry Coyne, published in 2009. That's 150 years of scientific progress since Darwin's 1859 book.

An important sentence from Why Evolution is True that theists need to understand:

"If the history of science teaches us anything, it is that what conquers our ignorance is research, not giving up and attributing our ignorance to the miraculous work of a creator."
-- Jerry Coyne

Mr. Daniel, please tell me you didn't just throw out all the time I spent writing a previous comment. That wouldn't be very nice. I will give you a benefit of a doubt and try to publish it again. If it makes you cry, tell me why, but you don't need to show off your love for censorship.

I suppose if I had a childish idiotic fantasy like you do, I would be a bit upset if someone explained why I should grow up. However I don't think I would do what you did, which is cry like a baby and censor everything.

Goodbye.

You asked me questions. I took some of my precious time before I go to work to answer your questions. You censored the answers because they made you cry.

And you Christians wonder why everyone has so much contempt for you.

Human Ape,

I never censor comments. Your comments were picked up by my spam filter, which I rarely check. But I unspammed them.
