More evidence that the end of the "end is near" is near

A great post at Carpe Diem offering additional evidence that the end may be near for those who believe the end may be near. Among the interesting comments on the post was this quote concerning the American Physical Society:
The American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change and is now proclaiming that many of its members disbelieve in human-induced global warming. The APS is also sponsoring public debate on the validity of global warming science. The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming "incontrovertible."
In a response to this post, the APS stated that the reversal in position was from its Physics and Society Forum rather than the organization as a whole. Still it is one curious that it should have happened at all given what we're always told about scientists being unanimous in their position on this issue.

As a longtime follower of the national "zeitgeist", I have never seen a more gloomy and ominous attitude than the one currently on display in the local and national media. Being a contrarian by nature, I find it all rather comforting. The mass media never ever get the big stories right and they naturally have this one wrong as well. The economic miseries we read about daily will gradually ebb away as they always do and goodness and light will once again prevail. The magic engine of American capitalism has taken a few hits lately but it's a pretty remarkable device and even a democrat majority in DC cannot destroy it.
